Our emotions are a power that reveals our thoughts more clearly. A court that ensures reconciliation between us and the world. In that court, we conclude our own decisions and draw a path for ourselves with those results. Sometimes I think that our emotions, which often override our logic and always make us feel its weight in every corner of our body, never accept responsibility when the results are revealed to us one by one. Would it be possible for Frida Kahlo's physical pain, Saileri's jealousy of Mozart, Dali's endless love for himself, and Nazım's life in a foreign country if he did not enter into a war with her at the moments when our logic tries to turn us away from that path? Would the winner of this war appear as some of the choices in our lives?
According to the science of psychology, emotion is defined as follows: 'The impression and reactions that an event, person or object evokes in a person's inner world and body.' In psychology, emotions that can generally be observed and measured are discussed. Emotions that cannot be observed directly or indirectly (e.g. compassion…) are not addressed. Some of the basic emotions dealt with by psychology are pleasure, fear, anxiety, curiosity, anger and aggression. As stated in the definition, these emotions can cause some reactions in us. For example; In case of any threat or stress, we become defensive and give severe physiological reactions. These reactions generally arise from the combination of emotions we create towards the ordinary situation. So, where does love fall in all this reactive mathematics?
It is not possible to give a general definition of love. Everyone has their own definition of love. According to social anthropologists, “Love is a sexual passion.” According to psychologists, “Love is to be both normal and neurotic, creative and destructive.” According to philosophers, “Love is different for men and different for women. But for everyone, it is the primary source of good and evil, beauty and ugliness, or until you fall in love, you realize that you have never been in love before.' Which definition would you accept? Love is a subject that we can probably describe with a word or a sigh. It has been said, written, experienced, unspoken. Although it has been described with , we cannot take refuge in a single definition. The biggest factor in this is that each lover's way of experiencing love is different. We can say that a phenomenon that causes enthusiastic behavior for some of us and shy behavior for others, is also affected by the way we live our lives.
When we feel that we are in love, the parts of our brain called the 'reward system' are activated. In this regard, with the dopamine hormone secreted, we perceive the person we love as a 'reward'. This hormone secretion allows us to connect more passionately with the person we love. A reward mechanism that shows us that we can spend the rest of our lives happily, trying to show that the butterflies inside us can live forever... It is a situation where a word, a look, a behavior causes all the stones of our life to be moved and redesigned. While we wait for a tree we planted for ourselves to grow, we continue our lives, spreading smiles everywhere, as if we suddenly owned the entire forest. We do not suppress the desire to experience this state of joy over and over again, and we begin to pursue this feeling more. Thus, the 'feeling' that gives us a problem-free life above the clouds suddenly turns into addiction.
This addiction overlaps with the state of 'obsession' and in a sense, love, which is the source of insatiable passions, can turn into a psychological disorder. When the enthusiastic mood becomes very difficult to control, it can build walls in our lives that are very difficult to prevent, and the person can only understand this when he remains under that wall. With the suddenly unstable mood and falling hormonal values, the person who is deprived of his loved one feels like the world has stopped spinning forever. Thus, symptoms such as fear, depression and anxiety appear.
We are starting to compete with the death of many things within us that make us who we are, replacing the immortal loves described in our literary world. At this point, how can love, which cannot be defined as an emotion, manage to become the highest feeling in the world for us? Stay in love…
