DEFINITIONS IN MANUAL THERAPY

Manual therapy: Manual therapy means treatment done with the hands.

It is performed using only the hands

in order to correct movement restrictions in the joints and eliminate reversible

function disorders. It is a method of mechanotherapy.

Manipulation can sometimes be used instead of manual therapy. But

manipulation is only one of the manual therapy methods.

Manipulation: According to the definition of the International Federation of Manual Medicine

manipulation is "Muscle-

in the case of postural balance."

It is the use of hands during the patient's treatment process using instructions and maneuvers aimed at ensuring maximal, painless movement of the skeletal system

.

Forced passive movements applied to joint

elements within anatomical limits by a manual therapist are called manipulation

Mobilization: Mobilization techniques are voluntary by the patient. They are rhythmic, repetitive, passive movements

performed at a speed as slow as possible.

Manual Medicine: The medical science that deals with manual therapy methods scientifically,

indications, contraindications, application techniques and effects

researches and explains them in the light of current information.

It is called “medicine”. The goal of manual medicine is to help ensure optimal body mechanics

and increase movement

in restricted areas.

Increasing maximal pain-free movement in a balanced posture and

optimizing function are the goals. The most basic

use of manual medicine is to eliminate movement limitation and correct movement asymmetry

. Increased mobility and flexibility are helpful in restoring optimal muscle function and

ease of movement. Pain decreases with the return of normal

movement. The condition causing the dysfunction should be determined through manual examination

and the most appropriate manual therapy should be applied. It is applied by physicians

.
