Laparoscopic Gallbladder Surgery

Gallbladder stones and gallbladder polyps are the most common diseases of the gallbladder. Gallbladder stones form due to problems in bile production. While it may remain silent for years, it may cause abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting after eating. If stones block the mouth of the gallbladder, inflammation of the gallbladder (acute cholecystitis) occurs. Again, if it blocks the bile ducts, it causes inflammation of the bile duct (acute cholangitis) or inflammation of the pancreas (acute pancreatitis). The treatment of these diseases is to remove the gallbladder surgically at the appropriate time.

Gallbladder polyps are finger-like protrusions on the inner surface layer of the gallbladder. Single polyps up to 1 cm can be monitored with ultrasound. However, if the polyp is larger than 1 cm or there are many polyps, the gallbladder must be removed surgically, as the risk of cancer in the gallbladder increases.

Gallbladder surgery is performed by closed (laparoscopic) surgery. It is performed under general anesthesia, that is, by putting you to sleep, using special tools through 3 or 4 holes opened in the abdomen. It takes approximately one hour. Patients are discharged after being hospitalized for one night.
