Small Steps Lead to Big Journeys

Depression is not laziness, it is a disease that a person can recover from by getting psychological support. Not doing our daily chores, not going to work or not being willing to go to work, not wanting or not wanting to meet our friends, not doing household chores (e.g. cleaning) are not laziness, they are signs of depression, and the good news is that depression is a treatable disorder.

Schemas of worthlessness, failure, unlovability, and inadequacy are frequently observed in the depressed individual. An individual with depression may think that others may think negatively about him or her. A person may experience thoughts of "I can't do it, I can't do it", so he may postpone the things he wants to do, and as he postpones, his belief in the thought of "I can't do it" becomes stronger. The way to break this is to work with these thoughts and take action despite these thoughts and do a small part of whatever we want to do. If we encounter things that will prevent us, we should identify them and help them. is to develop counter solution strategies.

If we look at the depressed person's self-thoughts, thoughts about the future, and thoughts about the world, we call these the cognitive triad of depression, while thinking about himself as worthless, inadequate, unloved, and unsuccessful (For example, he deserves good and nice things). He/she has negative thoughts about the world and sees the future as dark and has no hope (For example, he may think that he will not be able to make pleasant friendships in the future). The person sees himself as worthless, unloved, inadequate, because depression is like sunglasses, no matter how bright and sunny the weather is, you see the darkness around you. We try to help you take off these glasses in therapies.

We all experience distress, sadness, grief and pessimism in the face of unwanted and disappointing life events. But these things will disappear after a while. If we are depressed, the clouds of sadness, grief and pessimism may never leave our heads. You may not want to go to work, you may not be able to continue a job you set out to do, you may not be able to tidy up the house, you may find meeting with friends unpleasant. Let's assume you sit down at your desk to write, even if you write a word. It can. But the way to get rid of these depressive symptoms starts with taking a small step. Even a journey of thousands of kilometers begins with a single step, says Laozi. But sometimes it's hard to take even this small step. The road grows bigger and bigger in your eyes and you are surrounded by your worries because you are looking at the end of the road, not at the small field that is just a single step in front of you. In this case, most of our clients rightfully turn to psychology books. However, unless that single miraculous step is taken, that is, unless action is taken, positive results cannot be obtained because the information read is not used. When we use what we read in psychology books in life, our lives begin to change. We recommend that our clients do this by getting professional psychological support rather than trying to do this alone.

Take a moment and think about what is the smallest thing you can do today among the things you want to do?

Hope that your small steps will start big journeys.
