Adolescence: What Should Parents Do?

Adolescence is the first step from childhood to adulthood that every person experiences at certain ages. This phase, which is generally accepted as between the ages of 12-20, begins between the ages of 8-13 for girls and 10-15 for boys.

Some physical and spiritual changes occur in this phase. Contrasting thoughts with parents begin to occur. During this period, parents experience a kind of mourning for the child they lost, trying to adapt to this grumpy, stubborn person who replaced their cute and obedient little child. This situation ignites conflicts even more. Seeing that their authority no longer has the power it once had may create some anxiety in parents. Parents need to understand this situation and evaluate it correctly.

What should parents do?

Remember, adolescence is a process and the role of parents is very important in getting through this process in a healthy way. If your conflicts become too complex to resolve, do not hesitate to consult an expert.
