The new type of coronavirus (Covid-19), which has increased its effect worldwide, causes serious damage to other organs as well as the lungs. Covid-19, which causes systemic involvement in the body, increases the tendency to clot, especially in cardiovascular diseases.
Cardiology Specialist Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Bozbaş said in his statement that cardiovascular diseases are the most common disease worldwide and cause death.
Stressing that more than 40 percent of deaths worldwide occur due to cardiovascular diseases, Bozbaş said, "In other words, deaths "Approximately half of it is due to cardiovascular diseases. For this reason, it is described as the disease of the age. Approximately 200 thousand people die annually due to cardiovascular diseases in Turkey." he said.
Bozbaş pointed out that Turkey does not have a good record in terms of the incidence of cardiovascular diseases compared to developed countries, and said, "In European Union countries, the age of having a heart attack is approximately 65 for women and 55 for men, while Turkey's "Unfortunately, it is 55 for women and 45-50 for men. Cardiovascular diseases are seen 10 years earlier in Turkey than in European Union countries." he said.
Prof. Dr. Bozbaş stated that malnutrition, overweight, stressful life and smoking are among the main reasons why cardiovascular diseases are seen in earlier age groups in Turkey.
"Coronavirus creates a tendency to clot"
Bozbaş pointed out that the Covid-19 epidemic, which is seen worldwide and whose effect continues to increase, has multiple effects on health and continued his words as follows:
"Covid-19 does not only affect the lungs, but also other organs." It also affects the blood vessels. In other words, it is a systemic involvement. The cardiovascular systems play an important role in this. Because the coronavirus creates a tendency to clot, that is, it triggers the formation of clots in the vessels. In this respect, it is of great importance in terms of cardiovascular disease. In Turkey, the heart disease Since diseases are seen in earlier age groups compared to European Union countries, the possible risks increase with Covid-19. Coronavirus affects elderly patients more seriously and cardiovascular diseases in elderly patients. Unfortunately, the virus can be more lethal in this group when diseases are seen more frequently."
"Treatment should continue without interruption during this period."
Therefore, we underline that the elderly and those with cardiovascular disease should be much more careful. Bozbaş stated that the frequency of the disease is expected to increase, especially with the onset of cold weather and the emergence of upper respiratory tract problems.
Bozbaş stated that with the winter season, more time will be spent in closed areas and that mask-distance-hygiene will be more important. He pointed out that it should be applied meticulously.
Pointing out that the risk increases due to the high burden of chronic disease in people aged 65 and over, where the virus is more lethal, Bozbaş said:
"Cardiovascular disease In particular, it is important for patients to continue their treatment without interruption during this period. However, in general, everyone should pay attention to their sleep patterns during this period, stay away from stress, and eat a balanced and adequate diet. Adequate physical activity should not be neglected during the day.
Since it is not possible to go out due to cold weather, people should move around the house as much as possible. With the permission of the doctor, you should use a treadmill or ride a bike, if available. If permission is given, one should move frequently at home and perform cultural and physical exercises. Exercise should be done to make you sweat for 30-60 minutes during the day. Because exercise is important for both cardiovascular health and strengthening immunity. On the other hand, care should be taken to consume sufficient amounts of fluid during the day."
Prof. Dr. Bozbaş underlined that weight gain was generally observed during the pandemic process and emphasized that attention should be paid to this situation. Stating that obesity increases the risk of disease, Bozbaş emphasized Stating that everyone should reach their ideal weight as soon as possible, he stated that it would be beneficial to reduce portions, eat a vegetable-based diet, and stay away from carbohydrate foods while eating an adequate and balanced diet.
