Psychological Resilience During Covid-19

When we go back, not long ago, exactly one and a half months ago, we all had different daily routines and different pursuits. No one would have thought of taking such a long break while continuing our routine lives. We are going through a process that we have never experienced before and do not know what to do. Following stay-at-home calls, groups that are thought to have a high risk of infection are isolated at home, and going out on the streets, even for short periods of time, is prohibited in metropolitan cities, working styles change, social distance is tried to be maintained as much as possible in all kinds of environments, and we have to change our normal routines. This is a crisis process. After the measures taken during the Covid-19 process When we listened to ourselves, we were afraid, worried, we questioned what our priorities were and we are still questioning. We saw closely what we neglected, what we got upset about, and what we wasted time on. We limited our activities due to the global pandemic, and this situation, which we are not used to, put a lot of pressure on us psychologically.

I would like to start the part of what we need to do to feel better these days by telling what I did. I took action, thinking that it was the right time to do everything that I wanted to do before but postponed because I couldn't find the time. While doing these, I did not set a goal such as providing maximum efficiency or being a perfectionist. I only cared about staying in the 'MOMENT'. I made firm and clear decisions and did not tire myself out. I planned my day the way I wanted, did whatever I wanted, and got rid of the idea that I had to do something all the time. At the same time, I continued to run my business online from home. In order to support others, you must first feel good and be able to cope with the crisis. At the point where I felt good and realized that I was coping with the situation, I started to support others.

So, what are you doing while living these days? What has changed in your life in this situation that we are experiencing for the first time in our lives and that we are not used to? Have you taken up new pursuits? How do you maintain your social relationships? What did these days make you remember what is important?

While you're thinking about the answers to these questions, here's what you need to do. I would like to make a few recommendations. First of all, to keep your immune system strong; Be careful not to sleep too late. Increase physical exercise and do not disrupt your eating habits. Regardless of age, be sure to join your children's games and play together. Never neglect to communicate with your elders and remember that they need us the most in this process. Get news about the epidemic from reliable sources at certain times and try to follow the recovery rates of the disease. Focus on the things you can do during this period to reduce the risk of infection, and do not fall victim to your cognitive distortions such as the epidemic will never end, you will not be able to go out again, you will not be able to see your loved ones, and you will not be protected from the virus no matter how many precautions you take.

Although we do not know how long it will take, we can leave these difficult days behind with solidarity, by first protecting our health during this crisis, and without forgetting that difficult life experiences have instructive and empowering aspects. Stay healthy.
