Psychologist Ceren Yağcıköseoğlu said that the underlying cause of overweight and obesity is not limited to unbalanced nutrition and sedentary life. Stating that obesity, which is considered as the plague of the age, interacts with the mental health of individuals, Ceren Yağcıköseoğlu said, "Although there are other reasons at the source of both negativities, psychology in need of treatment triggers obesity, and obesity negatively triggers healthy human psychology."
In recent years, Psychologist Ceren Yağcıköseoğlu pointed out that the number of individuals experiencing obesity and weight-related problems continues to increase day by day and said: "It is a fact that the increase in working hours, economic reasons and lack of time are leading individuals to unhealthy, ready-made foods. However, people are turning to unhealthy foods." It has been supported by studies that 'emotional eating' plays a role in the preferences and behaviors that enable them to continue consuming these foods."
Turning to Foods That Make You Happy
Emotional eating is especially effective in women compared to men. Psychologist Yağcıköseoğlu added: "Even if a person is not physically hungry, in situations where boredom, anger, loneliness, guilt and unmet expectations develop, he can cope with unwanted emotions for a short time by turning to foods that make him happy. Since they increase serotonin and dopamine, chemicals that provide pleasure and relaxation in the brain, more carbohydrate and fat type foods are preferred, so the person develops a coping mechanism within himself. "Since choosing carbohydrates and fatty foods causes weight gain, it makes it difficult for women to cope with their emotions, especially by causing them to be dissatisfied with themselves," he said.
