Obesity Causes and Consequences

Obesity is defined as a chronic disease that develops with the increase of fat tissue in the body and increases the risk of heart diseases. Obesity is a worldwide epidemic disease; at least 2.8 million people die every year due to overweight or obesity. Obesity, once associated with high-income countries, is now common in low- and middle-income countries. Governments, international partners, non-governmental organizations and the private sector play an important role in contributing to the prevention of obesity.

Body fat ratio should be 20-27% in women and 12-15% in men.

Fat storage capacity increases with weight gain in a healthy individual, but returns to its previous state with weight loss. In obese people, capacity does not decrease; obese individuals are more prone to weight gain.

Obesity can last a lifetime. As BMI (Body Mass Index) increases, the death rate increases.

Women have 20-27% fat tissue, 12% of fat tissue is essential fat. 5-9% fat is found in the chest, pelvic area and hips.

Adipose tissue consists of essential fatty acids and stored fat.

Essential fatty acids are found in the bone marrow, heart, lungs, spleen, It is found in the intestines and nervous system.

Stored fat is found in the subcutaneous tissue and around the internal organs.

 

Causes of obesity

Eating too much consumption, especially excessive carbohydrate and fat intake, making fatty foods more palatable.

Inappropriate diet behaviors can be considered as the causes of obesity. These behaviors usually come from childhood. Nutritional behaviors are clearly shaped between 6-12 months and 1-3 years of age.

Inadequate physical activity can cause obesity.

The fact that the genetic structure is prone to obesity can be considered a reason.

Neuroendocrine factors and psychological factors can cause obesity.

Gender has an effect on obesity. Having a genetically higher amount of fat tissue in women increases their susceptibility to obesity.

Obesity treatment

If we list the tips to consider in obesity treatment;

Obesity Diet therapy and behavior modification therapy should be applied in the treatment of diarrhea. Physical activity should be increased.

In nutritional treatment, the individual should evaluate his past diet history.

He should determine his target weight.

He should be conditioned together with his family and environment.

He/she should have his/her health status checked.

Alcohol consumption should be reduced or stopped.

He/she should choose a balanced diet based on carbohydrate, fat and protein content.
