Varicose veins are a disease that is frequently seen in 40-50% of the population, that is, between the ages of 20-70. It is more common in women than men.
Symptoms of Varicose Veins:
-
Prominent leg veins
-
Pain and itching.
-
Cramping and burning at night
-
Fullness and restlessness in the legs
What should a patient with varicose veins do?
Patients with varicose vein symptoms and visual impairment should first be examined by a cardiovascular surgeon and evaluated with a Doppler ultrasonography performed by the same doctor. Therefore, the cardiovascular surgeon who will treat the patient must have good knowledge of Doppler ultrasonography.
In case treatment is considered, if there is not enough dilatation and reflux flow in the "saphenous vein", which belongs to the patient and is called the spare vein, in the future The vein must be protected for use.
Varicose vein treatment is not just gluing or ablation of the saphenous vein that runs from the knee to the groin. Perforating veins below the knee and above the knee should be mapped on the doppler ultranography performed by the surgeon, and these veins should also be treated. Otherwise, varicose veins will recur after a few years. In patients with large varicose veins, perforating (bridge) vein insufficiency is frequently observed.
In my opinion, the treatment of varicose veins is to bring the disease to a level that will not recur completely, to minimize the complications that may occur during and after the treatment, and to treat the complications in the best way possible. It should be performed by the cardiovascular surgeon himself.
All treatments must yield the best results in terms of aesthetics.
Non-Surgical Varicose Ulcer Treatment
It seriously affects the quality of life of people. Varicose ulcers are seen in 1% of the world's population. The main causes of this disease are as follows:
-
Perforating vein and deep vein insufficiency occurring after previous deep vein occlusion
-
Advanced patients without treatment varicose veins causing severe perforating veins and venous insufficiency nmas.
Varicose ulcers, which generally occur under these three headings, cause serious physical and psychological trauma on patients. The treatment of these wounds on the legs, which can lead to cuts, becomes more difficult over time.
Many varicose ulcer patients come to my clinic feeling hopeless and pessimistic after doctors say "There is no cure for this disease." Contrary to this situation, there is a systematic treatment for this disease. As a first step, before starting the treatment of varicose ulcers, all perforating and vein insufficiencies are detected by detailed lower extremity venous Doppler ultrasonography, after determining the exercises that the patients will do in accordance with their daily lives, recommendations for weight loss and conditions for using socks. Afterwards, these deficiencies are stopped and foam, glue or laser treatment is performed.
