Use of Pain Tape (Kinesio Tape) for Physical Pain

Pain Tape, originally known as kinesio tape, is a special blend of cotton and nylon tape. It has the feature of imitating the elastic structure of the skin. In this way, it does not restrict body movements. Once the pain patch is applied, its waterproof feature does not come off during exercise or even while taking a shower. Pain patch has a structure that can last approximately 5 days on the body.

How does the pain patch work on the body?

Pain patch has a unique structure and lifts the skin slightly. It creates a gap in the underlying tissues. This situation creates relief in capillary blood circulation, lymphatic circulation and free nerve endings.

The pain patch also changes the information sent by the sensory nerve fibers that transmit the feeling of pain and pressure to the brain.

All our tissues experience pain. It contains sensory receptors that detect the sensation of temperature and touch. All of these receptors contribute to spatial position, which we call proprioception. In other words, our brain senses where our body is and what it is doing. It changes the signals to the brain by gently lifting the skin upward. Trigger point is a good example. When the physician applies it to the trigger point, the pressure on the trigger point decreases and pain receptors send different signals to the brain. Tensions on the trigger point decrease. A study has shown that applying a pain patch along with manual therapy reduces the tension on the trigger point.

In injuries, a pain patch helps increase circulation and reduce swelling in the injured area.

Pain patch reduces the blood flow to the skin. It makes a contribution by improving the flow. In addition, it also increases the circulation of lymphatic fluids. Lymphatic fluid is usually water, but it also contains proteins, bacteria and some other chemicals. The lymphatic system maintains fluid balance in our body and prevents fluid accumulation between the tissues, which we call edema. When applied, it reduces pressure by creating space under the skin. This change in pressure increases the flow of lymphatic fluid.
