Laser in the Treatment of Oral and Dental Diseases

LASER technology has been used in medical applications since the 60s. In dentistry, it is used for both gum and tooth and bone operations, as well as for teeth whitening.

The biggest complaints we have heard from our patients for many years have been the fear of needles, the uncomfortable feeling of numbness, and the noise and vibration created by our devices. Since there is no contact with the tissue in laser procedures, pain is much less than in classical methods and most of the time there is no need for anesthesia. At the same time, it is extremely quiet as a working principle.

In addition to this comfort experienced by all patients, the Laser provides great convenience for patients with special conditions such as pregnancy, anesthesia allergy, bleeding problems, fear of dentists. Each tissue in the mouth is different. It has density. When working with laser energy inside the mouth, the laser is used with special settings and tips determined according to the water density of each tissue; It focuses on the tissue to be treated and allows the procedure to be performed on any tissue by expanding and evaporating the water molecules there.

Since the entire system is based on this principle, there is no risk of damaging a different tissue while working on one tissue. and it is not possible to store laser energy in the body.

The biggest advantage of the latest generation lasers is not only in soft tissue (gum, tongue, cheek) but also in hard tissue (tooth enamel, dentin, cementum). ,bone) can be performed.

Procedures performed with laser in the mouth:

In soft tissue:

Gingivectomy-gingivoplasty: In aesthetic smile design, in all aesthetic studies, and after orthodontics, it is the preparation of the gums both healthy and aesthetically. When the procedure is performed with Laser, the procedure is completed in a single session, often without anesthesia or bleeding, and other treatments can be started without the need to wait for any recovery period.

Curettage: It is the cleaning of the inflammation caused by tartar under the gums with laser energy. Most of the time, it is applied without anesthesia and the damage to the tissue heals much faster.

Depigmentation (treatment of gum discoloration): Colorations on the gums due to pigment concentration, which occur due to various factors or genetic reasons, are peeled off with laser, often without anesthesia, as if peeling. The patient gets pink gums without any change in his/her routine life.

Frenectomy: Lip-tongue, located between the lip-gum, cheek-gum in the anterior region. Various irreversible problems may occur in the long term due to the involvement of the ligaments. This deformation is corrected with a short intervention without the need for anesthesia.

Removal of soft tissue lesions: All abnormal formations in the mouth are removed with Laser without anesthesia and without the need for stitches. It is removed.

Aphtha-herpes treatments: After the laser intervention, the healing of aphthous ulcers and herpes reaches the next stage in 7 days in a single session.

In hard tissue:

Caries removal: Tooth enamel, dentin or cementum Most of the time, all the bruises on it are cleaned without the need for anesthesia.

Surgical procedures: All surgical procedures performed on bone tissue (implant, impacted 20-year-old operations, bone corrections, etc.) can be done with laser in a much more trauma-free manner and the healing process is much better.

Root treatment: During the treatment, the root canals are treated with laser. It has been observed that treatment success increases when sterilization is achieved.

Sensitivity treatment: Cold sensitivity due to gingival recession is resolved in a single session as a result of laser energy blocking the dentin channels.

Laser biostimulation: No matter which tissue is administered, cell division is accelerated by laser energy and the healing process is shortened by half.
