Acupuncture is a treatment method derived from the Latin word acus, meaning needle, and punctura, meaning to pierce or prick, and is expressed as "acupunctura" in western languages. It can be translated into Turkish as needling.
Acupuncture is a treatment method based on the principle of treating diseases by needling certain points on the body surface. It is not only a method that eliminates pain and symptoms, but also treats diseases. Acupuncture in traditional Chinese medicine dates back to 3000 BC. There is also a section on acupuncture in the book compiled from the speeches of the Yellow Emperor and his vizier.
Turks' encounter with acupuncture is much older than known. In fact, doctor Yakup Buğra Bey, who immigrated from China to Turkey, claims that the hair tying style in the human pictures in the Yellow Emperor's book belongs to the Uyghur Turks and that acupuncture is a Turkish treatment style.
According to the philosophy of acupuncture, an energy called "chi" circulates in some channels and stairs in the body. There are 26 meridians in the body. In these meridians, the resistance to the passage of electric current is lower. There are points used in treatment on the meridians. By stimulating these points, signals are sent to the brain and the body's self-repair mechanisms come into play, helping the treatment.
How is Acupuncture Applied?
Thin acupuncture needles of various sizes are used to respond to the patient's complaints. It is applied by placing it on the body over the determined meridians and collecting it again after waiting for 20 minutes. The treatment is completed in a total of 10-12 sessions, 2-3 days a week. The number of sessions may vary depending on whether the disease is chronic or acute. Gold or silver needles can be used, there are also some types of permanent needles for ear acupuncture.
