Painkillers increase headaches!
Dr.GökhanGÜREL stated that primary headaches, especially Tension-Type Headache and Migraine, are common in the society and nearly half of the patients with headaches have a headache. He said that they generally seek solutions on their own, without consulting a physician, and that they resort to painkillers as the most common method.
Dr.Gökhan GÜREL said that painkillers can be used to relieve pain in patients who have headache attacks several times a month. If a person uses painkillers more than 2 or 3 times a week due to headache, that person faces chronic daily headaches due to excessive painkiller intake. "From this point on, headache treatment becomes difficult and our patients begin to be exposed to the side effects of painkillers," he said.
Migraine patients who experience 2-3 or more headache attacks per month should definitely consult a neurologist and receive personalized treatment. Dr.Gökhan GÜREL, who stated that they should receive 'preventive treatments' determined as follows, also spoke as follows for the treatment of patients suffering from chronic headaches due to excessive painkiller intake:
“Patients whose pain does not go away despite taking painkillers almost every day should take painkillers. Their intake must be stopped under the supervision of a neurologist. During periods without painkillers and when headaches will increase, methods such as transitional treatments, purification treatments and nerve blocks can be used. In addition, a correct preventive treatment must be started according to the physical and medical characteristics of the patient.”
