What is Rhinoplasty and in what cases is it performed?

Rhinoplasty, which is called Rhinoplasty in medical language, is an aesthetic operation performed to treat the existing appearance and functions of the nose, in which the bone and cartilage tissue in the nose is reshaped and given a new appearance.

It is located in the middle of the face and receives the most attention. The nose, which is the pulling area, constitutes 1/3 of our mid-face. Our nose, which is an important organ both in terms of its functions and aesthetics, is positive when it has a beautiful shape, but it also causes us to receive negative reactions when it is deformed and has a bad appearance. Aesthetic concerns we may experience due to our nose will cause us to dislike ourselves and decrease our self-confidence. People's self-esteem not only increases their self-confidence but also supports success in their lives.

Our nose, which is an important organ not only aesthetically but also vitally, undertakes the vital task of breathing and exhaling. Breathing healthily also brings a healthy life.

Oxygen Deficiency Due to Deformity;

- If the passage is narrow, less oxygenated blood is sent from the heart to the body due to oxygen deficiency. . Our heart works faster to compensate for insufficient oxygen, and after a while this puts pressure on the heart and leads to heart enlargement.

- The effort of the lungs to send more oxygen to the body causes hardening in the lungs and a decrease in our effort capacity over time.

- Intake of a small amount of oxygen increases fatigue and weakness.

- Deformity in the nose makes breathing difficult and more effort is required.

- Not receiving the appropriate amount of oxygen increases sleep. It also reduces the quality.

- Deformities also cause snoring.

Our nose, which is the only element of our sense of smell in addition to its function of breathing, protects our lungs by filtering the microbes and bacteria in the air while breathing. In addition, it makes our voice sound more full and smooth while speaking.

In Which Situations Is Rhinoplasty Applied?

- Whether the nose is large or small according to the facial structure

- The size of the nose being arched

- Having a sunken or crooked nose

- Deformed tip of the nose

- Low tip of the nose

- Presence of flesh inside the nose

During nose surgery, problems causing breathing obstruction are also eliminated.

How is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Rhinoplasty surgeries are basically performed in two ways: 'open technique and closed technique'.

Open Technique: Serious nose tip problems. It is preferred in cases such as advanced bone curvature. The most important advantage of the open technique is that it can be performed in direct field of vision. This type of surgery is easier for the surgeon to perform. In this technique, all bone and cartilage structures in the nose and tissues in that area are completely visible. During the surgery, the skin of the tip of the nose is removed and the cartilages are completely exposed.

With the Open Technique, all kinds of deformities, curvatures in the nose, missing and collapsed areas of cartilage can be repaired. Open technique is an operation that generally leaves no scars, depending on the doctor's dexterity. The difference in incision from the closed technique is the 3-4 mm incision in the middle of the nose towards the lip.

Closed Technique: This technique is a scarless nose surgery technique. In general, it is preferred for problems such as reducing the size of the nose, removing bumps on the back of the nose, and correcting crookedness in the nose. Nasal incisions are made from the inside of the nose and the inside of the nose can be seen down to its root. The operation, which is mostly performed using general anesthesia, takes 2-3 hours on average.

Things to Consider After the Operation

- Water should not be consumed for 2-4 hours after the operation. Lips can be moistened with a wet cloth within 4 hours. Vomiting may occur with premature water consumption. Intravenous fluid supplementation will be administered in the post-operative period.
