'Social media' emerges as one of the biggest, if not the biggest, situations that are actively involved in every moment of our lives. The information flow frenzy on social media is so intense that after a while it becomes a phenomenon that needs to be constantly followed.
FOMO; Opening; We can talk about 'fear of missing out', that is, the fear of missing the agenda and developments, and in connection with this, a generation that always has smart phones in their hands, is sleepless and is starting to lose its functionality. The reason for this fear is related to the thought that I will lose control. The person who wants to be informed about everything at all times; He finds it difficult to concentrate on routine tasks because the agenda is out of his control and he cannot follow it. In connection with this, the situation of addiction to the phone called 'nomophobia' occurs.
Not taking part in social media and not receiving the desired amount of likes and comments when taking part makes the person think that he is 'an unapproved and disliked person'. This leads to a decrease in the individual's self-confidence.
“Is FOMO a disorder that needs to be treated?” I hear the problem often. If social media plays a very important role in your life, if you want to run to your social media accounts immediately in case of a crisis when you are away from it, that is, if you show symptoms of withdrawal, if you feel relief when you have it and if you feel unhappy when you stay away from your social media accounts; This means that it has reached a condition that needs to be treated. Because it causes serious damage to your quality of life.
FOMO is most seen in Generation Z individuals, that is, those who can be called "children of the internet age" between the ages of 15-35. It occurs especially more prominently in men.
FOMO is seen mostly in individuals who work in front of the computer. FOMO also occurs in people who socialize thanks to social media. They are people who become lonely and unhappy when social media disappears.
It damages face-to-face, real relationships, both within the family and among friends. Because everyone is disconnected from real life with their phones in their hands and turns into "socially disabled" individuals. They are starting to do something.
So will it never take part in our lives? Of course not. However, the main thing is that it should be a tool rather than a goal that surrounds our entire life.
Getting rid of this will be difficult at the first stage; If you cannot cope individually; decrease in your quality of life; If you are experiencing deterioration in your relationships and problems in functionality, I recommend that you get support from an expert.
